West Loop Community Organization issued the following announcement on March 20.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced Friday that a "stay at home" order will go into effect Saturday at 5PM until April 7, 2020. All Illinois residents are prohibited from leaving their homes except to purchase groceries and fuel, seek medical care, walk outside, repair infrastructure, and travel to and perform essential work. All local roads, including the interstate highways and tollways, will remain open to traffic. Chicago Public Libraries and Parks will close. Here are the main points:
- Within the outlined exceptions, all individuals currently living within the State of Illinois are ordered to stay at home or at their place of residence. Whenever possible, individuals are to maintain social distancing.
- All non-essential business and operations must cease, excluding remote performance of work from residencies. All essential business and operations are encouraged to remain open, including stores that sell groceries and medicine, organizations that provide charitable and social services, producers and distributors of agriculture and cannabis, financial and educational institutions, and many others.
- All public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a household are prohibited. Only travel considered essential is allowed. People riding public transit must comply with social distancing requirements to the greatest extent feasible.
- During this time, all state, county, and local law enforcement officers will cease enforcement of orders of eviction.
