The Neighbors of West Loop (NOWL) is a thriving community organization committed to serving the people of its thriving community.
After a time of informal gatherings of residents, the organization became official in 2013 with the forming of a board of members who were equally committed toachieving the group's goals. Chief among them, according to the NOWL website, is the vow “to bring together those in the West Loop who want to make a positive impact on our vibrant community.”
The accredited nonprofit organization is solely supported through its membership and other area residents who volunteer their time and services.
“The organization is founded on transparency and welcomes anyone who wants to work within a team to make a difference at the local level,” the website states. “We believe in transparency and the idea that every resident should have the opportunity to be informed and to be heard on issues that affect their community.”
NOWL further bills its mission as advocating for responsible development, informing residents about area happenings and connecting residents with their elected representatives.
“We draw from people who are already involved with local CAPS (Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy) programs, park advisory councils, local school councils, condo boards, other area associations and residents looking to make a difference,” states the website.
