The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) officially finished the design work for the project to stripe Randolph Street from Halsted to Morgan Streets and is expected to begin soon, affecting numerous Randolph businesses and valet operations.
Striping Randolph allows for proper corner clearances and the addition of a single handicap space at the beginning of each block, according to an official post on the West Loop Community Organization’s website. It is currently unknown when exactly the striping will commence.
The construction days are “weather-dependent” and are currently subject to change. Orange signs forbidding drivers to park in certain locations will be posted one to two days prior and will highlight the days that work will take place.
CDOT will take days to complete the striping as they plan on working in sections.
“Randolph Street businesses and their valet partners should remain extra vigilant until striping is complete to avoid interruptions of service,” the post stated.
Any cars parked in spots where work will occur after the signs have been placed will be picked up by a tow truck and relocated to a nearby location.
Additionally, local residents living within the striping zones are now able to purchase Resident Parking Permits (RPP) from the Office of the City Clerk. Depending on the expiration date on the RPP’s sticker, the cost is $25 per year which includes a $5 sticker replacement fee.
Each permit expires the same time as the City Vehicle Stickers that are placed on the permits. The City Clerk’s office has the official right to deny the authorization of any RPP if the purchaser is found to have violated any of the application rules.
Chicago Residential Parking Daily Permits are also available, which are guest passes that are valid for 24 hours. Each household has a limit of three sheets of 45 permits and it costs $8 for each sheet of 15 permits.
