If Google moves to the West Loop, other tech companies are sure to follow.
CCC Information Services hopes to be one of them. The company, which makes auto insurance software, is eyeing a building under construction at 167 N. Green St. in Fulton Market to house its headquarters.
CCC, currently housed in the Merchandise Mart, is negotiating a lease for around 180,000 square feet, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune. Cushman & Wakefield are the brokers for the negotiations; the building is planned to be 17 feet tall and contain 750,000 sq. ft. Shapack Partners, Focus and Walton Street Capital are the developers, the article says.
In recent years the former industrial, meat-packing district of Fulton Market has emerged as a corporate and cultural hub, with major national and international corporations setting up shop in 2.5 million square feet of new office space, with almost as much planned for construction in the next two years.
Aside from Google, companies relocating in the district include McDonald’s headquarters and Mondelez International, a massive food company that includes brands such as Oreo and Chips Ahoy! cookies, Philadelphia cream cheese, Cadbury chocolate, Ritz crackers, Toblerone candy and many more.
WeWork, a coworking company that offers shared office space, conference space and more, has already signaled intent to move into the new building, as has Duff & Phelps, a financial firm, the Tribune said.
The building will also include public space and flexible “shared space” for tenants on the top floor.
With the entry of so much corporate enterprise in the area has come a concurrent housing boom as well as the introduction of numerous high-end and other restaurants, bars and cafes; UrbanMatter noted that the district now often goes by the new nickname “restaurant row.”
