West Loop parents whose children were cared for at Kids & Company’s 1140 W. Madison location say they were given exactly nine days notice that the daycare would be closing Feb. 28.

The former day care is a prime retail location on the street level. It was operating on a month-to-month lease and operators were able to place most children from that location at its other sites.

Now some parents wonder if their kids were booted out to make room for a pot shop.

Windy City Cannabis included that West Madison address among four it sent to the Zoning Board of Approval for consideration as cannabis dispensaries. The Zoning Board, however, says that the company has not held neighborhood public meetings, a necessary step for gaining approval, or even applied for a permit.
