Announcement

Chicago Public Library - West Loop Branch issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.

Henry Legler Regional Library has reopened as the West Side's regional library after an extensive yearlong renovation. In addition to the $11 million renovation, we're celebrating Legler's 100th anniversary; the location first opened October 9, 1920.

The renovation included adding a recording studio, maker lab, adult computer lab, artist in residence studio and wellness room; revamping the YOUmedia space for teens and reconfiguring staff work areas. We also made necessary repairs and updates due to the age of the building.

Named for Henry Legler, CPL's fourth chief librarian, Legler Regional proudly boasts "Knowledge and Wonder," an iconic mural by Kerry James Marshall.

Through the years, Legler Regional has been a social and educational hub for Westside residents. This renovation encourages the lifelong learning at the core of Chicago Public Library's values. While the neighborhood around the library has drastically changed in many ways in the past hundred years, Legler staff have always strived to meet the needs of the community.

Legler Regional is led by Shilo Jefferson, who has over 20 years' experience at CPL. Shilo and her team of dedicated library professionals are excited to work with Westside residents at the library that bears Henry Legler's name. We can't wait to show off the space to you!
