Students at the Intercultural Montessori Language School are mastering a song so that they can send their love – literally – to Wuhan, China as inspiration for those impacted by the coronavirus.

“The song is about praying for the people,” a teacher at the West Loop school identified as Ms. Xiang told CBS Chicago.

School officials said some students at the school have been speaking Mandarin Chinese since they were as young as 3 years old and feel a personal connection to China.

“We want to encourage and help these people and help them fight through it,” fifth-grader Ellie Lang said.

“My connection might be deeper because I have family and friends in Wuhan," said sixth-grader Alina Krieg. "It really makes me feel bad. I think this song might inspire them to fight harder.”

Students are also planning a hot chocolate fundraiser, and once the song is recorded it will be delivered to the Chinese Embassy in Chicago and passed along from there.
