Friends of Skinner West volunteers are hard at work collecting items for the school’s soon-to-be STEM library.

Organizers have been meeting for weeks now to plot strategy, including assembling a list of common household items that could go a long way in the creation of a makerspace.

“If you happen to be doing a purge before Santa brings more toys, please consider donating any of the items below,” the group posted on Facebook in early December. “There will be a bin in the lobby labeled ‘STEM supplies’ where you can place these items."

Supplies being sought include magtiles/magformers, Legos, cardboard tubes from gift wrap, paper towels, etc., tape of all kinds (duct, painters, masking, double sided), straws, wooden craft sticks, paper clips, binder clips, scissors, glue of all kinds, Altoid tins, toothpicks, zip ties, yarn or ribbon, paper, brass fasteners and Velcro.

Mark T. Skinner West Elementary is located at 1260 West Adams Street in Chicago and is part of the Chicago Public School system.
